We are both pleased and excited to announce that the Reverend Chris Weichman has accepted our invitation to become our next pastor. Chris is currently the Associate Pastor for Mission at North Avenue Presbyterian Church in midtown Atlanta. Prior to his time in Atlanta, Chris was Associate Pastor at East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City, PA.
Chris was born in Chicago, IL, and his family moved to Pittsburgh when he was four years old. He graduated from Westminster College in 1989 and from the Pittsburgh Seminary in 1998. His first call was Associate Pastor to East Main in Grove City. It was during this time that he met his wife Karen.
Chris and Karen, have two daughters, Noelle age four and a half and Emma age six, and thus have an interest as parents, as well as pastor, for a strong Christian Education program. Chris states that he has a “passion for scripture and preaching that will not leave me alone”. He also possesses the gift of pastoral care and leadership for those willing to grow and reach out in service to their community.
Quoting from Chris’s longer statement of belief he states: “. . . . In scripture, prayer, and worship the living God encounters human beings. God desires to be in relationship with us and in grace covenants with us to strengthen the bonds of relationship and reconciliation. . . .In the fullness of time God sent Jesus Christ into the world, to bear the sins of the world and to reconcile the world to himself. In his life and on the cross Jesus made atonement for our sins. . . . We have died to the old and are raised in newness of life. . . .By the gift of faith Christians are called to serve in the world. . . We are to proclaim the Gospel boldly in the struggle against injustice, poverty, and evil. God has given the church a special calling, to speak about the hope of the good news in Jesus Christ.”
