Text Box: “THOUGHT STARTER”
“And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish.”
                                                                   Jonah 1:17-2:1
Rabbi Pesach Krauss, former chaplain at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he counseled patients and their families, tells an inspiring parable in his book Why Me? Two wood choppers have cut down a tree that is well over 100 years old. The younger man, observing the trees growth rings, notices that five of the rings are very close together. There must have been a five year drought, he concludes, during which the tree experienced very little growth. The older timberman, known for his gentle wisdom, has a different perspective. The dry years were actually the most important years of the tree’s life, he says. Because of the drought, the tree had to force its roots deeper and deeper into the soil, in order to get the water it needed. Then when the drought ceased, it was able to grow taller and faster because of its deeper roots.
Likewise, our difficult times, can be times of great growth. Words may not be able to describe the pain we may be enduring. Emotional and spiritual suffering can be as debilitating as physical injury. Yet with patient work, we will pass through our crisis. We will never be the same person we were before, but with stronger and deeper roots, we will be able to grow more quickly.
As Billy Graham said, “The mountain top is for beautiful scenery, but fruit is grown in the valley.” No matter where you are, on the mountain top, in the valley, or the belly of a fish, you are not too far from God. God can and will bring you through the wilderness to the other side.
                          Sincerely yours in Christ,
                    Chris Weichman

Caring Friends Needs You!!!

Caring Friends is asking for people to sign up and help in visitation to those coming home from the hospital or surgery. We have some who are doing this on a regular basis, but need more help and would like to have enough volunteers that people only need to do one visitation per month and perhaps even less than that. If you are willing to help in this Clen-Moore outreach, please call the church office and let them know of your willingness to help or sign a card in the pew on Sunday morning. Those who have been doing this have felt a great blessing in visiting, more than those who have been visited. Please help us to show God’s love through this ministry.

This is a wonderful way of serving and receiving a blessing at the same time. Thank you.

Mary Circle News

Six “Cutters, Pressers, and Stitchers” met on Saturday, April 5th in the Mary Circle room to sort fabrics and accessories that had been donated to us, press cotton fabrics for Julia Snyder’s patchwork lap robes and quilts, and cut out garment covers for the Shenango Care Center. We enjoyed working together from 9:30 until noon, and plan to announce another work session later in the year.

Spring Cleaning

The Y2K Class is sponsoring a Rummage Sale, Saturday, May 31st to benefit Church Mission Projects. The Y2K Class is now accepting donations of clean, saleable items. No adult clothes/shoes or broken items will be accepted. Donations can be dropped off at the church during office hours.

Please contact Michelle Singer (724-667-1110) if you have any questions or would like to help with this event. Thanks in advance for your generosity and support. We need to strive to be a more “missional” church and support community outreach.

 PRIME TIMERS CORNER

Greetings:

Spring is here but it seems to be a slow starter this year.  We just have to be patient.

We hope the sunshine and warm weather will help some of our members who have had serious health problems and have been on our prayer list for several weeks.

Prime Timers had their first social of the year on April 15.  It was a catered dinner with some 60 members present.  Entertainment was provided by Janet Covert.

We were happy to have Steve Plyler back from  his Mission trip to Dominican Republic.

Join us on Tuesday at 9:30 for fellowship, coffee and a uplifting message from Steve.

                          See you Tuesday,  Bob McConnell

New Trips

June 12:  “The Ohio Amish” & “The “Wilds”

We depart at 7:30 a.m. for Lehman’s, serving the Amish and others without electricity with products for simple, self-sufficient living since 1955. Lunch, (which is included) is at the Amish Door Restaurant, located in Wilmot, OH. Enjoy a family style feast from their Amish kitchen. Also, next door are a variety of shops: The Country Loft, Grandma’s Pantry, Vintage Collectables and the Wooden Toy Shop. We will be at this stop between 12:00 and 2:00. From Wilmot we continue south to Cumberland, OH, and way out in the country we find “The Wilds”. This will be like a “mini-trip through Africa”. In 1990 fencing of the initial open range was installed and the first animal management facility was constructed. You will have the opportunity to view the various species of animals as we drive the coach through the gated reserve, with a local step-on guide, and enjoy a lofty and safe view, as the animals roam free! Departure for your return trip (approx. return time to Clen-Moore is 10:00 p.m) includes a rest and fast food stop. Tour includes: Roundtrip deluxe Motorcoach transportation, Admission to “The Wilds” and a family style luncheon at the Amish Door Restaurant. Cost per person is $82.00.

Aug. 2-8;  “Circle Lake Michigan Cruise”

Enjoy a new experience with the “Primetimers,” a “Circle Lake Michigan” 6-night Cruise on board the “Grande

Mariner.” With unique designs that allow easy travel through shallow waters and narrow channels, the “Grande Mariner” offers soft adventure in casual, unpretentious surroundings. With a maximum of 100 passengers, it is easy to socialize and make friends. Along the way, your captain and onboard lecturers offer enjoyable informational commentary, as you cruise past the breathtaking scenery.   The Cruise Director offers a variety of activities for guest participation. This cruise allows passengers all the amenities of a large, ocean going, cruise ship. NO PASSPORT is necessary. Because this is a small cruise ship, space is limited. Do not hesitate, if you are interested, a $500 deposit per person, is required with booking. Balance in full is due May 23, 2008. Various cabin categories, with various pricing are limited. When you place your reservation and deposit, confirmed pricing will become available. Approximate cost per person: $3499.00. Double Occupancy Only!!!

Remaining 2008 Carousel Shows

May 14:  “Damn Yankees”. Joe Boyd is addicted to baseball and particularly the Cleveland Indians. He is willing to sell his soul to bring the Indians to victory over the team we all love to hate – those Damn Yankees.

July 16:  “Viaggio” is brought to life by the “el Circo” troupe. Watch the dazzling performances including beautiful gravity- defying acts, aerial tricks, and ethereal acrobatics all set to evocative music.

September 10:  “Wizard of Oz”. One of the most beloved musicals of all time. Relive the classic! Now is the perfect time to revisit Oz to see what happens to the three witches of Oz.

November 19:  “All Shook Up”. Elvis songs, sung by the entire cast. Heat up the season with this sizzling, energetic, musical told through more than 24 of Elvis Presley songs. Music, mischievous madness and unexpected pairings are sure to rock the house.

This series looks like one of the best we have seen. These trips to the Carousel are the easiest you can make. The only walking involved is to your seat in the theater. The cost is just $350 for a whole year of entertainment. The cost includes: bus transportation, drivers tip, dinner of your choice, waiters tip and last but not least is the excellent show. The bus leaves Clen-Moore Church at 10:30 a.m., has a stop at the Country Club Plaza and is home by 6:00 p.m. Call me (Peggy Byler, 724-652-8918) if you’re interested or have any questions.
